When you are going through a divorce you will undoubtedly receive all types of advice and words of encouragement… most of which will come from people who have never gone through the turmoil of divorce themselves.
“One day you will look back at this and laugh” Yep, there is nothing more entertaining than a breakup… “Hey, remember when your husband of 10 years left you for his 25 year old secretary? That was hilarious!”
“I didn’t like her anyway” There’s nothing better than finding out that your friends and family couldn’t stand your spouse. While likely meant to make you feel better, these words are not really encouraging.
“Everything will be okay” While you will probably not feel better in hearing this tidbit of advice, this one is most assuredly one of the true ones. Things might not be too great right now, but in time stuff has a way of working itself out.
“Aww, I’m so sorry” You will get this from nearly everyone that knows you and knows that you are going through a divorce. Everyone from your friends on Facebook to the checkout girl at the grocery store will express their sorrow for the end of your relationship.
“Things can only get better” Well, there’s a pretty good chance that things just might actually get worse… but this is another one of those that are pretty much true although not really any help.
You will no doubt hear these and many more “words of encouragement” but don’t worry, things can only get better, and everything will be okay. And remember… one day you will look back at this and laugh!
